Micaela Barlow, Head of Quality

Micaela began her career as a dental nurse before finding herself drawn to teaching at a local college.

Following a move to a work-based learning provider in 2007 as Student Services Manager, she progressed to Head of Quality in 2009 and joined HIT in November 2012 as regional quality manager.

Now Head of Quality, Micaela works across hospitality, management, social care and childcare to ensure HIT provides excellence in teaching and assessment.

“Apprenticeships provide a unique way of learning and prove there are no barriers to achieving,” says Micaela. “They really are the best part of our education system.”

Micaela has steered HIT through two Grade 2 Ofsted inspections, implemented a rigorous staff development programme and introduced a SENCO lead attracting learners to HIT who would not otherwise have joined programme without additional support.

When not working, Micaela takes her Labrador dog Wilson for long walks, reads two books a week and regularly swims.
